Ken Horve
Ken Horve was born in 1919 in Sandwich, Illinois. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II—where he was assigned to the Seabees and helped construct landing fields in China—he returned home and began working for the Wabash Railroad. In 1956, he built his first house, a milestone that would set the course for the rest of his life. Balancing railroad work with his growing passion for construction, Ken devoted countless hours to building homes that reflected his dedication to craftsmanship and quality. Over the years, he established a reputation as a trusted builder of high-quality residences, creating houses that were not only structurally sound but also places families could proudly call home. His commitment to excellence laid the foundation for the Horve Builders tradition that continues today.
Steve R. Horve
Steve R. Horve began his career in the 1970s, serving as Manager of Engineering at Lehn & Fink Production Company while building homes alongside his father in Decatur, Illinois. During this period, he developed numerous residential subdivisions in Decatur and Forsyth, expanding into commercial projects that included apartments, restaurants, and retail spaces. These early endeavors laid the foundation for a flourishing career in construction and real estate development.
In the mid-1980s, Horve entered the hospitality industry through a partnership with Marcus Hotel Corporation, constructing more than twenty hotels across the Midwest and South, including Budgetels, Hampton Inns, and Comfort Inns. His development of the Hampton Inn in Dearborn, Michigan in 1989, where he became part owner, marked his entry into hotel ownership. Over the following decades, Horve’s leadership expanded Horve Builders into senior living and healthcare construction, creating communities that reflect his enduring commitment to quality, comfort, and innovation.
